The Jobs Taxonomy widget enables you to display the terms for a given job taxonomy, and choose how these terms should behave (links to other pages, or simply display the terms’ values)
Content Settings
Taxonomy
This setting determines which job taxonomy this widget will display and filter by. Simply select the desired taxonomy from the dropdown
Format (as)
Use this setting to determine how the taxonomy filter should be displayed, there are three options to choose from: List, Dropdown & Multi-Select.
Method
Determines how terms should function in the UI. Accepts ‘link’ which are traditional links to WordPress taxonomy archive pages, ‘filter’ which are links to the current page with additional query args that are read by a Matador pre_get_posts() action to limit results on the active page, ‘search’ which are links to the jobs page with the taxonomy as a search term (if used on search page, would reset filters), ‘value’ which are not links. method = ‘value’ is ignored when as is ‘list’, and in that case ‘link’ is used. Default is ‘link’.
Show All Option
This setting determines whether an ‘All’ option should be included in the list of terms, and the placement of this ‘All’ option. Possible values are:
- Before – Display before the list of terms
- Before If – Same as ‘Before’ but only display the ‘All’ option when a term has been selected
- After – Display after the list of terms
- After If- Same as ‘After’ but only display the ‘All’ option when a term has been selected
- Both – Display both before and after the list of term
- Both If – Same as ‘Both’ but only display the ‘All’ option when a term has been selected
- Off – ‘All’ won’t be displayed.

Style Settings
Fully Customizable Styles:
If the default styles inherited from your WordPress theme do not meet your design needs, you can fully customize the appearance of the widget. This includes adjusting fonts, colors, padding, margins, and other properties to ensure the link seamlessly integrates with your site’s design. These settings offer a high degree of control, allowing you to create a link that matches your brand’s aesthetic.
Use Cases
- Job Category Filters on Job Listing Pages: Use the widget to display a list of job categories, enabling users to filter job postings based on specific fields like “Full-Time”, “Part-Time”, or “Remote”.
- Location-Based Job Search: Showcase a dropdown or list of locations where jobs are available, allowing job seekers to filter opportunities based on the city, state, or region. This is particularly useful for companies that operate in multiple regions, helping users quickly find relevant opportunities near them.
- Industry-Specific Filtering on Specialized Job Boards: For niche job boards (e.g., healthcare or tech-focused job listings), use the widget to display industries or professions within that niche. For example, on a healthcare job board, filter jobs based on “Nursing”, “Administration”, “Surgical” roles, etc.
- Customizable Job Search on Career Pages: Incorporate the widget into a company’s career page to allow applicants to filter job listings by departments like “Sales”, “Engineering”, “Customer Support”. With the ‘search’ method, the widget can direct users to a search results page that includes the selected taxonomy term as a filter.
- Multi-Select for Advanced Job Search: Leverage the multi-select format for more complex job searches where users need to filter results by multiple criteria at once, such as “Remote”, “Marketing”, and “Full-Time” jobs. This provides job seekers with a more tailored set of results.
- Dynamic Filtering in Sidebar: Place the widget in a sidebar or footer of the job listings page. This allows for consistent access to filters like job type, job category, or location without taking up prominent space in the main content area.
