Installing Matador CheckList

If you’ve completed your purchase and installation of Matador Jobs, you may want to review this checklist to ensure you have the most common points covered. Many of these items are discussed in further detail in separate help articles in the Using Matador Jobs help doc category.

Not all the items in this checklist are required for all projects, but we hope to cover most use cases with this list.

  • Check you meet the prerequisites.
  • Setup a Development or Staging site to install and configure Matador away from your active business website
  • Install the Matador Jobs plugin
  • Go to Matador Settings > General Tab:
    • Set the number of days to save logs (we recommend at least 2)
    • Set your default administrator email.
  • Connect to Bullhorn
  • If you are using a live site (and not a development site), at this time make sure SEO plugins do not include Jobs on your sitemap. You will change this back later.
  • Go to Matador Settings > Job Listings Tab:
  • Do the first sync (Matador Settings > General Tab > Bullhorn API Connection: click on the Sync button)
  • Go to Matador Settings > Applications Tab: review the settings in the Email Settings section and set them up according to your needs and preferences
  • Do a test application.
  • Validate you get a confirmation email based on your settings?
  • Validate the application is saved to Bullhorn.
  • Set up your Job Search page with the [matador_portal] shortcode, or work with a designer to design an archive page with search and filtering.
  • If working with a designer, consider updating or customising your job listing single template page.
  • Set up a general application page if desired.
    • An unpublished “default job” must exist in Bullhorn so that general applications can apply to it. Make sure you create this job and fill in the Bullhorn ID for that job in settings (Matador Settings > Applications Tab: Default “Job” to Apply To)
  • Review all settings, with special attention to settings that help you adhere to either local laws or regulations (ie: User Privacy, Salary Transparency) and your agreements with your customers (ie: data to publish in Structured Data)
  • Test all pages for functionality and display in various screen sizes and devices.
  • Before you go-live, check your caching options. Any pages with a Matador Application form should not be cached for more than 24 hours. Some sites cache pages up to 7 or 14 days, and if your site does this to pages with application forms, your forms will not work and give your users an error. See this help doc.
  • Launch, if on staging/development, by migrating your changes to your live site.
  • Reset Connection Assistant when migrating environments. You may need to request an additional URL to be added to Bullhorn’s allowed URL list.
  • Add menu items for your job portal so users can navigate to your job portal page easily.
  • If you disabled Jobs from being included in your SEO sitemap, enable them now.
  • Setup the Google Indexing API
  • Set careerPortalDomainRoot via Bullhorn Support if you intend to use Bullhorn’s built-in “Also Publish to Indeed” feature.
  • Review SEO plugin settings
